Speedskaters Compete

Members of the Mountain View Short Track Speedskating Club had success in the first competition for the club, held April 25 in Everett.

Lisa McInnis of Camas and Chris Sundstrom of Vancouver each won two races and placed second in their third event. Other club members who placed were Howard Unkeles (one first-place and two second-place finishes), Linda Jellison (one first and two seconds), and Jim Minami (fourth place in three races).

In novice competition, Sami Naffziger of Vancouver placed first in one race and second in her other two. Other young club members who placed in races were Elise Heimowitz (two firsts, one second), Andrew Heritage (one second, two thirds) and Adrian Unkeles (two firsts, one fourth).

The races covered three distances: 333 meters, 500 meters and 777 meters. Clubs from Everett, Bellingham, and Tacoma joined Mountain View for the competition.

The Mountain View club meets noon to 1pm each Sunday and 6:30-7:30am Fridays at Mountain View Ice Arena, 14313 SE Mill Plain Blvd. For information, visit http://www.mtviewice.com or call 360-896-8700.
